X.430 X.430. COMPARISON OF EXPERIMENTAL MAGNETOS. (1) The weight of the magneto complete but without pulley, shall be taken. (2) Some general remarks with regard to mechanical and electrical details of design, more particularly those in which the magneto differs from standard practice, shall be made. This applies only to those details which may be observed without disturbing the armature and magnets of the magneto. (3) The radial dimension of the air gap between armature and pole pieces shall be obtained, if possible. (4) The length of the high tension safety gap shall be measured. (5) The position of the high tension distributor brush on one segment at the point of break (with normal primary point gap) shall be obtained both for fully retarded and fully advanced positions of the contact breaker lever. (6) The primary point gap, contact breaker timing in fully retarded and fully advanced positions shall be obtained, making use of a graduated disc placed upon the magneto shaft, and the make ratio estimated therefrom. (7) The magneto shall now be subjected to an endurance test. For this purpose the magneto shall be run for 12 hours, with gaps set to 5.0 mm., at a speed of 2000 R.P.M. Contd. | ||
