X1166 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}31/KW. 26th June, 1936. Messrs. S. Smith & Sons (M.A.) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. Dear Mr. Nichols, Thank you for your letter of the 19th June. I quite appreciate your disappointment that Jackall Jacks are not being standardised on the Phantom III. I cannot agree that the Jackall system is perfection, nor that your competitors have copied your sample set. You will also remember that every time we have previously sent one of your systems to France on a Continental test, we have run into some trouble or other. We very much appreciated the effort you made in order to get the Jacks through quickly, but would point out that your competitors also made remarkable efforts on the job. However, as you know, personally I am completely unbiased. Unless Sessions Jacks continue to give satisfaction you may rest assured we shall not continue to fit them. In the meantime, we propose to run your Jacks on an experimental car, and will let you know what troubles we encounter. As we see it, your effort is far from wasted because you have had the experience of fitting Jackall Jacks to a Phantom III and you will therefore be in a position to supply them to any customer's special requirement. Furthermore, you will have information on any troubles which arise. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
