With reference to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}2/T.17.1.36.

We had a talk to Fisher, the technical representative of the Stromberg carburetter Co., yesterday, with reference to the proposal to use bronze throttle bodies on these carburettors. We had not heard of this proposal until we read your memo.

We understood from Fisher that the only reason for suggesting bronze throttle bodies was because these could be obtained more quickly than cast-iron bodies. The whole of our running experience so far has been carried out with cast-iron throttle bodies and, as far as we can ascertain, the whole of the American experience has been gained with cast-iron throttle bodies; they do not use any bronze in production.

The reason we picked the Stromberg carburetter instead of the Zenith was so that we should have the advantage of the American experience behind us, and design have helped us in this respect by departing from american practice as little as possible. Whilst therefore we are reluctant to make any difficulties for production, we suggest that it is wrong at this juncture to alter the material of the throttle body, even though on the face of it bronze might appear to be a better material.
