To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} X.2894 EFC3/T28.1.21. X. 2894 - TUNGSTEN POINTS. L 3/19 It certainly appears strange that the points taken from the Liberty Delco ignition have not been satisfactory on the R.R. standard battery ignition. I do not know whether you have obtained equally unsatisfactory results with the pair which was sent to you, but perhaps may assume so from your note. I have a report from the Test Dept. that a pair of Tungsten contacts of the last lot (which were referred to in our EFC7/T21.1.21) have run for 3,000 miles on the School Car quite satisfactorily, even running better as compared with the standard platinum contacts. We have a number of these newer contacts running on experimental cars and on bench tests and we think these may be more generally satisfactory. If they are not so, we must then make an investigation in order to answer your question why these come out different on our own ignition than on the Delco. At present we cannot definitely answer this. EFC. | ||
