X4194 COPY OF NOTE RECEIVED FROM H.S.(IN U.S.A.) RECEIVED 29.11.30. X. 7941d. X. 4194. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to SG.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} CLUTCHES. The clutch on 25-H has worked remarkably, there has not been the slightest criticism. The work the clutch has to do is enormous with traffic lights everywhere. Even where there are no lights, the streets are posted either as "through streets" or "cross streets" at every corner. On a "cross street" you must stop before you enter or cross a "through street". The clutch is in use the whole time. Spring field are pretty well convinced that the improvement they have made in their clutch on Phantom 1 is probably due to their changing the material more than altering the design. Brake Squeaks. 25-EX. has run 2100 miles here and we have not had a sign of brake squeaks. They have been keen listening for squeaks because it has been a trouble with them and also on imported Phantom 11. This car is fitted with the special anti-squeak front brake shoes. If this result is confirmed on the other cars we have running we ought to standardise this type of brake shoes. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
