X1110 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} & Ry. c. to Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to Hdy.{William Hardy} HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.14/RW.12.2.36. 25/30 HP. Clutch. Further to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Smth.9/RW.11.2.36, we have now run a prolonged test on the weaker springs in London traffic and have experienced no signs of clutch slip. We therefore recommend that Borg & Beck's specification BB.252, which covers the 11A3 clutch for 25/30 HP., should be amended to include thrust springs of 105-115 lb. loading, painted green. With regard to the propellor shaft damper, it has been our experience that we can do away with this when we use a Borg & Beck clutch, but we suggest that the coupling flange should be made so that we can fit a damper if we find it necessary.
