xev176 H3 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager}Ms.BH. ~~Hbr.Do.Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rms~~ Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}9/EL16.11.33 Re Girling Brake, and Visit to Rovers. I am in receipt of E.3/HP.15.11.33 and am glad to have further information relative to this matter. I quite agree to your carrying on with the programme suggested. Re oscillation, I appreciate that in 'SpectreCodename for Phantom III' you are making provision to overcome this trouble by increasing the torsional rigidity of the frame, but we have got to live a long time with the present designs and I feel, therefore, that we ought to rig up and test the scheme referred to of using friction damped weights on the front dumb irons, i.e. a loaded up bumper. As mentioned in my former memo, there is much too much oscillation on the front of our 20/25 trials car so that, if Derby could provide us with one of these loaded up ~~xxxxxx~~ bumper bars, we could quickly try the effect on this car.
