| To Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}13/KT.27.9.33. With reference to the saloon car EVS.102, we see no means of ventilating the front driving compartment. We are quite aware of the reasons which made you delete the sunshine roof, but we do think that, unless some provision is made for getting air in and out of the driving compartment, the car will become intolerable in hot weather. We are interested in this because we think that this car will eventually be acquired by the Expl. Dept. We are very impressed by the efficiency of the Spinney ventilator when used in conjunction with side flap windows as on the Terraplane. The arrangement would still be better if the side flaps were of the General Motors type. On the Terraplane they are arranged to be extractors only which necessitates the use of the Spinney ventilator, otherwise fumes are drawn through the floorboards. We understand that the streamline saloon will be ready in about a fortnight's time, and we should be glad to have confirmation of this so that we can be sure that the necessary chassis bits will be ready in time.
