X3770 [handwritten] RE. FAILURE OF LUCAS CUT-OUTS. X2575 [handwritten]

With reference to your BY1/P3.2.20, the attached is a copy of a memo. I recently sent to Ck.{Mr Clark} (CP6/H1.2.20) [handwritten]

The cut-out referred to we are arranging for Mr.Wyer to hand to you personally, so that you can take up this further point.

As requested by you, I will arrange in future to see that all failures and faulty parts on the electrical equipment are reported to you, and the faulty parts handed to you as far as everpossible.

I am anxious to bring to your attention the fourth paragraph of the attached memo., and trust that if the Lucas Electrical Co. Ltd. feel that the cut-outs are unreliable, they will take some action in order to enable us to turn cars out or to maintain cars in customers' hands which will not fail due to the possible fault referred to.

I should be glad to have your comments on this matter, also to know what action you are taking and what propositions or suggestions can be arranged for to cope with this possible failure of these parts whilst cars are in customers' hands.

We are now two cut-outs short for cars on test.

This memo. also replies to Ck{Mr Clark}'s enquiry Ck{Mr Clark}9/T16.1.20.

Whilst on this matter, I certainly consider that the use of [strikethrough]thick[/strikethrough] [handwritten above: thin] lead wire for the cut-out fuses should be standardised. The amount of thin lead fuse we have only enables us to fix a fuse of this description in the actual fuse box, but not supply them in the spare cartons.

Will you please arrange for a further supply of [strikethrough]his/to[/strikethrough] [handwritten above: fuse wire] be handed to us, also for this [handwritten above: wire] fuse to be standardised on further cut-outs supplied to us and supplied from the makers.

EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}
