628 GRY{Shadwell Grylls} Some design assistance for you Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/G.Mc. C. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} WRAITH GEARBOX. Although the oiling system should give good results for hard road use, the tests now being carried out on the Dynamometer (rather brutal) shows that this could be improved. The tests show that under the condition of speed and heat of the test, that the coupling at the rear end of the 3rd. Motion Shaft runs quite dry. A bleed hole in the plug at the end of the shaft should keep the coupling oiled providing that the pick-up is effective, if as I believe, there is some doubt about this point, a pocket could be arranged in the Box or Lid{A. J. Lidsey} that would be fed by the Gears and drain directly over the pick-up, both Spigot and 3rd. Speed Wheel Bushes were rather badly worn together with the Shaft. The test represents quite a road mileage, but if the weak points in lubrication could be improved the box should give even better results in ordinary use. RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/G.Mc. | ||
