PHANTOM. PRESSED STEEL WING STAYS. - FRONT WING.
-------------------------------------------------

Referring to Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}2/M.6.9.27. the position is that we have everything settled, standardization sheets etc. completed, authorising us to adopt the pressed steel wing stays referred to, but although the standardization sheet was signed up some long time ago, there was a considerable amount of correspondence betwixt ourselves, West WitteringHenry Royce's home town and Sales, on the subject, based mainly upon the shape of wing which it was decided to use. This was recently settled, but by the time it was settled the further proposal was, and is still being, pressed, namely, the use of a modified front axle control. This later proposal would involve new dies (one of each hand), for the rear stay of the front wing.

In view of the fact that the axle control scheme appears likely to come on with the next series, and as we had over-stepped the date for the present series, I decided that it would be best to bring in the pressed steel wing stays with the axle control, thereby cutting out the cost of two dies, one right and one left, for one of the pressed steel pieces.

It is most probable that the next series will be ordered up using the parallel axle control. Standardization Sheets are going round, and therefore everything appears to indicate that we shall be able to bring in the pressed steel wing stay with the series we are about to order. (B7)
