To EY. from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. c. to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} c. to EFC. X.3592. E3/M11.9.23. X.3592 - GOSHAWK II IMPROVED BENDIX DRIVE. We send you herewith drawing No. LeC.1761. shewing the above. This design should be tested against the improved Bijur recently sent with a view to the improvements in it being applied to early Goshawks if it is found to be superior. The feature of LeC.1761 is that the driving spring has been relieved of all and load and deals with torsion only. On account of this alteration there is much less restriction as regards the design of the spring and it has been made considerably more flexible than heretofore. Should this Bendix of course prove itself to be better than the Bijur we should most likely return to it altogether until such time as the electrical relay scheme is ready.
