For the attention of Mr. West.

Dear Sirs,

With reference to Mr. West's telephone conversation with the writer on Monday afternoon, concerning the special battery for the 'Phantom III' car fitted with special topping-up device, we have been looking into the question of fitting thin plates similar to those used on the special batteries for the Bentley car. Unfortunately, the matter is not so easy to deal with as in the case of the Bentley, because we had to reduce the height of the plate on the sample sent to you to enable us to get sufficient room for the float.

We attach hereto a table showing the three batteries in question, together with details of weight, capacity etc. The 6-BHD11-S battery is, of course, the standard battery, whilst the 6-LGL13-S special is the sample one which we sent to you, and which you have now returned. The 6-LZL13-S battery would be the one with the thinner plates in it, and you will notice that although there is a considerable saving in weight over the standard battery, the capacity is reduced by 18 ampere hours.

The reason why we were able to practically to maintain the same capacity as the standard battery in the case of the Bentley was because we were able to fit higher plates than the standard in the same height of container, but this, of course, is impossible in the case of the special design with
