Coverley - Production Engineer} File 1280 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.14/WH.27.1.38. REPORT ON VISIT TO JOHN MARSTON LTD. 26.1.38. The writer yesterday visited Messrs. John Marston Ltd., and the following points were discussed and decisions arrived at. (1) Bentley II Dummy shutter set prices. Cost per set. Tool cost. Quotation for shutter set to dimensions etc. shown on our drawing, but with Messrs. Marston's standard plating £3.5s.6d. £130. Quotation for shutter set to dimensions etc. shown on our drawing and with plating to standards laid down by R.R.Ltd. £3.8s.6d. £130. Quotation for shutter set to Marston's standard of plating and dimensions as obtained from tools without any checking £3.2s.3d. £130. Messrs. Marstons stated that in the event of their being given the B.III shutter set order, there would be no tool charge since some of the B.II tools would be used for B.III and cost of additional ones would be borne by Messrs. Marstons. In view of the above, we recommend paying the £130 tool cost and the £3. 8s. 6d. per shutter set. We would not, of course, agree at this stage to any slackening of the quality standards on this job. If we find when Marstons are in production that shutter sets direct off the tools are sufficiently accurate, we can later relax the dimensional limits in order to obtain a price reduction. | ||
