CADILLAC MOTOR CAR COMPANY DETROIT, MICHIGAN X. Note by BY2/G285-31 April 27, 1931. Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls Royce, Limited, Derby, England. My dear Ha/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}: Many thanks for blue prints of riding tests which arrived today. These will be very useful. We have been talking about aluminum alloy pistons. The principal trouble here seems to be lack of a really reliable alloy, and there is talk of composite construction (from which, I feel, the Lord preserve us) and others. Was expecting to hear of Devereux coming over and more about the R.R. 50 alloys before this time. They seem to be needed in the U.S. and we should like to see some of the alloys suitable for pistons, here. Would it be permissible for me to ask you to send us some test samples (heat treated) of R.R. 50's in the sand, chill and diecast condition suitable for pistons? Yours with thanks, Maurice Olley M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley fo | ||
