V1263 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/JBD.{John B. Dixon - Fuel Systems}1/KW. 3rd October, 1936. The S.U. Company Ltd., East Works, Adderley Park, Birmingham 8. For the attention of Mr. Leslie Kent. Dear Sirs, Some time ago we raised the question of you fitting caps or plugs to the petrol pipe connections on pumps and you agreed to do so. We have just had a case in which a small piece of wood shaving was found inside a pump just above the delivery valve, probably due to packing. Pumps are still being delivered without this protection, which would be in your interest as well as ours. We are glad to hear you are making good progress with the high lift pumps, as we are anxious to get these fitted to all the experimental Phantom III's with a view to getting them standardised as soon as possible. If the delay is due to the silencing arrangements, we feel it would be more in our interests at the present time to obtain the pumps without this feature, as in practice they will always be drowned in petrol and should not require buffers and if it is found they need them, they will be ready at a later date. It is the existing pumps which will still be used on the 30 HP. Rolls-Royce, and Bentley, that require to be quietened. We have as yet no report on the pump fitted to the Bentley in France but will give you details as soon as they are obtained. | ||
