TOP BAFFLE FOR WRAITH & B.III RADIATOR

TOP TANKS.

As detailed at the moment, the top baffles mentioned above are different on Wraith and B.III necessitating two different parts and two sets of tools for producing them.

Further, the Wraith arrangement of steam holes etc. which have proved entirely satisfactory, has been departed from for no justifiable reason on B.III.

We think, therefore, that the same arrangement of drain and steam holes should be used on both cars - we have already said so - Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/td.10/MH.{M. Huckerby}1.10.37. Further, if possible the baffles should be common to both cars.

The only difficulty about this is that owing to the curve on the top of the Wraith tank the baffle plate flange has to be curved; further, there is a hole provided for the escape pipe to pass through.

This can be overcome by -

(a) Shortening the length of the Wraith baffle so that it extends on one side of centre line of escape pipe and on other side it can then have a perfectly flat flange and will be a simpler pressing.

(b) Using this Wraith baffle for B.III but omitting the punching of the hole for the escape pipe.

Will you please arrange to make the baffles common in this manner as soon as this can be arranged. Meanwhile, will HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr} please modify the first B.III radiator baffles in accordance with the above outlined idea with the Wraith arrange-ment of drain and steam holes.
