Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} [Redacted] BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}/6/G.9.3.38. PHANTOM III, WRAITH AND BENTLEY. LUCAS R.100 HEADLAMPS. RE: ARRANGING FOR ENGLISH AND CONTINENTAL. With reference to the discussion in connection with the best form of making headlamps suitable for both English and Continental conditions, a discussion which has been somewhat drawn out due to the necessity of running a number of experiments and getting the interested people satisfied, it is now agreed that the best combination is to have dipper units in both headlamps, with changeover switches in the lamps, so that by the use of a screw driver only, the lighting can be made suitable for English or Continental conditions. The changeover switch is in all details the same as at present, with the addition of two moveable clamps, which change the connections, but which are loosened and tightened down in their new positions permanently by means of a screw driver, this being so, I am satisfied that we have arrived at a stage when we should issue a standardisation sheet for the scheme in question and make an effort to bring the modified lamps on to production at the earliest possible moment. It appears to me that we should make every effort to arrange for Phantom III headlamps to be fitted with the new scheme at 101 in 'D', Wraith should commence with it, and Bentley should commence with 'M' series. Will Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} kindly arrange for standardisation sheets to be issued to put this matter on a right footing. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} | ||
