B-6 UNIT.

This unit while doing its type test ran for a total of 126 hrs. 40 mins., of which 91 hrs. were at full throttle.

For full particulars of the first 60 hrs. of the test we refer to the report Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/R.H.2/KW.11.6.34. - "Endurance Test on Standard Bentley", which gives full details of the running during this period.

After 60 hrs. 30 mins. running the unit was dismantled for a complete examination for reasons stated in the above report, and in the strip report by R/S/C. circulated at the same time as the report by HA/FJM.

When rebuilt the unit was fitted with pistons by the American Aluminium Co., and run for piston experiments and also for tests on Halford silent tappets. The original bearings, both main and big ends, were maintained and only the pistons changed at this stage. The total running during this period was 18 hrs. 30 mins., of which 9 hrs. 30 mins. were at full throttle.

After the tests on the American pistons were concluded the unit was again dismantled and this time rebuilt with a new set of standard pistons for oil consumption tests, the total running during this period being 24 hrs. 10 mins., the full throttle running being 11 hrs.

The unit was then run for various carburetter tests for a total of 25 hrs., of which 10 hrs. were at full throttle.

The total running therefore of the original pistons was 85 hrs., of which 60 hrs. 30 mins. were at full throttle. The total running time of the main and big end bearings was 126 hrs. 40 mins., of which 91 hrs. were at full throttle.
