Rolls-Royce, Ltd., D E R B Y. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives. Further to our letter of the 27th inst. on this matter, I have been in touch by cable with our friends in America and am informed that the Octane Number of Safe-T-Esso is 91½ on the Series 30 Engine at 300°F.{Mr Friese}, and according to the new method of rating with the C.F.R. Motor now adopted by the American Army Air Corps the rating is 88. According to the current Air Ministry method of doing this test the Octane Number would be substantially above 91½.
