X1013 EEC.) To ST.{Capt. P. R. Strong} ) from R.{Sir Henry Royce} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ) c. to CJ. RG.{Mr Rowledge} DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} EX. R4/M29.4.24. RE RENAULT. X.1013. This car has cut in and out on vibrator in a very crude form which seems to work (S.E.V.). The Renault engine has a very long stroke, (160 mm.) it is a 4 point job in the frame, but the brackets are like cantilevers from the frame, and small attachments close to crankchamber. They heat their throttle with the pipe going to the engine from the bottom of the radiator by natural circulation - our 40/50 induction pipe - so they are worse than our pre-war cars. (This Renault is a 1922 model). We had thermostat and forced hot water circulation to ensure throttle heat; now we have forced exhaust heat. Dodd (Derby young fellow) thinks their construction flimsy in places, or clumsy in others. The chassis is very high and very heavy on stiff road springs. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
