TO C.J. FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} C. to D.F. CH. C. to F.H. ROYCE. C. to H.S. ORIGINAL R9/M29.1.23. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} RECEIVED JAN 31 1923 TECHNICAL POLICY. X/3165 X/801 We want to continue our distinctly different policy to the general American ideas, and we ought, and must, make our chassis throughout so that there is no need for frequent adjustments, or Repair Services. The very rare occasions when parts are needed, they should be sent from the factory to replace the unit. The Ford scheme of frequent breakages, and facilities for easy repairs would not suit the RR. CO., and the whole equipment, including the electrical appliances must have the reputation of never failing, because we shall never have enough cars about to justify the existence of RR. Repair Services all over the world. At the same time every endeavour will be made to permit of reasonably easy repairs, and for this we must not adopt the excessively difficult, and specialised knowledge and tools necessary for repairing certain equipments, which we have lately examined. If you agree with this memo. and think it would be wise, perhaps you would be good enough to have copies distributed to both the American and English boards. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
