Sidgreaves - MD} has asked me to reply to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst4/MA15.12.33. We have now received the instructions for examination, and they are being returned to you by bag on Monday. We should like to express our appreciation of your having so soon after the production of the Bentley chassis obtained instruments with three definite benefits - reduced weight, reduced price and reduced temperature error - all of which are naturally very welcome. We have very few criticisms, but these are as follow. The two B's are of different sizes. We suggest that the smaller is to be preferred to the larger, which latter we consider too big. If you thought an intermediate size of B would be better still, we leave it to you to select it. We suggest that the 'B' should be above the total mileage recorder, as there is more space above it than below. We also suggest that similarly the 'B' should be above the R.P.M. statement on the rev counter, and thus bring the two instruments into line in these respects. We presume it will be some time before you will have carried out your full tests of these instruments and are in a position to let us have them on production chassis, but we should naturally like to hear in due course that your tests are satisfactory and on what chassis we can expect them.
