BY¾ from DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} c. to BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} X7380 DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}3/M25.11.27. EAC.10 FRAME CROSS MEMBERS. X. 7380 X. 8380 Herewith we send N. schs. 2512 and 2513, shewing the 'X' shaped 4th. cross member in the EAC.10 frame. R.{Sir Henry Royce} would like you to make a model of this if possible so that we can see it before he goes to France, (approx. Dec. 15th.) The model should be half-size, all the thicknesses, sizes of bolts etc., being halved also. If the model could be mounted on runners somewhat representing the side members of the frame, (only of course much shorter) it would enable us to experimentally test the torsional stiffness, and see where the model was straining, which we think would be of assistance. It will be seen that we have instructed the gusset plates in the centre to be .104" thick, but the main members to be .156". We may ultimately wish to vary these thicknesses. We shall send you further information regarding the brake gear, the silencer which is now 6.25" diameter, and the propeller shaft. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
