Re 10,000 MILES TRIAL CAR - 12-EM. Attached is a report of the condition of the Chassis after dismantling. We are anxious to prevent, if possible, similar points being raised after the test of the car in the next series. The columns are numbered where we think action should be taken, and suggest :- BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} takes action at paragraphs 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 12, 13, 19, 20 and 21. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} for R.{Sir Henry Royce} " " " 3 and 4. Works. " " " 8. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} " " " 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 22 and 23. The impression of everyone who tested the car at the end of the trial was that it was in an excellent condition considering the mileage run. Also it tends to prove that if the Chassis is looked after and lubricated according to the instruction book, owners need not fear heavy repair bills. Several of the parts which we have looked upon in the past as always likely to give trouble on account of wear, show practically no wear at all. For instance, Front Axle Pivot Pins and Bushes, Engine Coupling, Sphere Joint, Spring Shackles. The outstanding features of the final run of the car was that KP. got 70 m.p.h. out of it, and the petrol consumption was 15 m.p.g., the car [handwritten insertion] was quiet and with the exception of the magneto, the engine was as quiet as a new one just off test. No engine adjustments, except setting the points of sparking plugs, had been carried out. No valves were removed, or tappets touched, during the whole of the trial. Hm.{Capt. W.
