To WH. from C. c. to EFC. ORIGINAL Oyl/B25:6:17. X.3054. Re letters Ovl/B15:6:17 and Ovl/B19:6:17. The letters to which you take exception with regard to the experimental work are, I presume, those mentioned above. X.2823 The first one, with regard to the contact breaker cam not being ready for 7 CA was based on Mr. Ellis's memo EFC12/T12617 which stated that Mr. Ellis did not think he could get the cam ready in time. I learn that Mr. Ellis by special efforts, got the cam through in time. I am sorry if this upset you, as it was quite clear to me that the delay (if any) was not in the Experimental Shop. As a matter of fact there was no delay at all, but Mr. Clark's memo gave me to understand that there might be. X.2909 Again, with reference to the camshaft drive, my reference to the lower ball bearing on the camshaft drive was founded on memo EFC13/T14617, in which we were not informed that temporary bearings were being put through. Since we require this camshaft drive for engine 1001 and onwards, and for the engine to be manufactured in the States, it seemed obvious to me that it should not be held up if by any methods of making bearings we could get it running. X.2957 There is a further letter with reference to the friction driver scheme which I have to admit was founded on an entire misunderstanding. I questioned the title "Damped Spring Anchorage for Sunwheel Carrier", X.2957 B, not realising that the make-shift experiment adopted at Derby would have an X number to itself, as it was put through more or less as an afterthought (Contd ) | ||
