1158 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.4/AP. Experimental Department 8th July 1937 Messrs Clayton Dewandre Co.Ltd., Titanic Works, LINCOLN. For the attention of Mr.S.E.Willett. Dear Sirs, We have an experimental car heater made by Messrs John Marston Ltd., and also a Buick latest type car heater which we should like you to test. If you could manage to do this for us and will let us know, we will forward these heaters to you. When the results are complete we should like to have a discussion with you on the subject of car heaters, as there is a likelihood that we shall make car heaters a standard fitting in the not too distant future. We shall be interested to receive the results of the oil cooler tests which you are carrying out for us, when you have completed same. The writer has a private cooling problem on which he would like your advise - it consists of cooling a 15 HP. marine engine by means of a heat interchanger consisting of copper tubes surrounded by sea water (which would be circulated by means of a pump) - the engine water circulation is to be thermosiphon. Could you from your heat interchange data on copper tubes etc. give me an idea of the area, number and length etc. of copper tubes necessary, assuming that tubing of 3/8" external dia. were used. Yours faithfully, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
