To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}: from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to CJ. " " BN.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} " " BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} " " EFC. X.3814 RE "BUZZARD" WHEELCASE AND GEARS. ORIGINAL. E3/G13/8/20. 6 We send you herewith four drawings dealing with the "Buzzard" Wheelcase and Gears, LeC.1266, 1269, 1274, and 1275. Owing to difficulty in dealing with the main oil connection between the wheelcase and the crankcase, Mr. Royce decided to modify the timing gear. The new centres and new gear wheels are shewn on LeC.1269. The worm gears driving the vertical shaft remain unaltered. The last mentioned drawing also gives some complete views of the wheelcase and the control mechanism connected with the governor. X3789. Drawing LeC.1266 gives particulars of the spring drive for the crankshaft pinion, and the slipper flywheel. It also shews some modifications which it was found necessary to carry out on the intermediate wheel mounting. LeC.1274 gives a sectional plan, and LeC.1275 shews the rear view of the wheelcase specially made for shewing the bolting-up face to crankcase, and the oil trough provided for the intermediate wheel. This completes the information we have to supply in this section. Would you kindly instruct. We hope to send you next, particulars of the upper portion of the camshaft drive.
