Confidential x421 Rm {William Robotham - Chief Engineer} To E. {Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} from ROY. {Sir Henry Royce} c. to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} ROY {Sir Henry Royce} 9/MG15.9.34 Mr. Woollard, of the Rudge-Whitworth Company, tells me they are making application for a provisional protection for an improved Locking Device, and has written as copy attached. He is particularly anxious we should treat this as confidential for the present, as it is not protected as yet. Extract from letter. "I have asked Mr Hack to let you have full particulars of the new development in the centre lock wheel fixing whereby we shall be able to obtain a firmer fixing for the wheel, while cutting out entirely the tendency to gall and jam, which unfortunately sometimes happens with the present arrangement of having two soft metals making a friction lock. We have made application for a provisional protection for this new device but would ask you to regard it as confidential until we have worked out all the details." | ||
