An Amazing Success! THE “HILES” PATENT VACUUM SYSTEM OF STEAM HEATING. THE GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT OF ALL TIME FOR THE COMFORT OF TRAVELLING IN MOTOR OMNIBUSES, LONG DISTANCE COACHES, CARS AND AIR LINERS DURING COLD WEATHER J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} HILES, M.I.H.V.E. Heating Engineer, Offa Street, St.{Capt. P. R. Strong} Peter's Square, HEREFORD :: Phone 2021. THE “HILES” PATENT is a non-pressure, Steam Heating System in which Steam is generated by a specially designed receptacle heated by the exhaust gases direct from the engine. Two or three pints of water only are necessary to efficiently warm a large passenger vehicle, single or double decker. Only Small Copper Tubes are required to conduct the steam and give radiant warmth to all parts of the interior of any type of motor vehicle. The system permits of the tubes being fixed in any position, irrespective of levels, in fact they can be taken under floors or roofs with equal working success. Some of the chief features are:— The system being entirely independent of the normal cooling system of the engine, engine efficiency is not reduced by having to run at a low temperature in cold weather, as with some coach heating systems using the water from the engine. Steam is generated and warmth obtained within a few minutes of starting a journey. The heat can be regulated as desired. The weight of the complete installation is negligible. Most simple in operation, silent, automatic, perfectly safe and fool-proof. There are no mechanical parts needing maintenance. No condense water remains in circuit pipes, therefore no trouble is possible from frost. No danger from poisonous gases as is possible from exhaust heaters fixed inside a vehicle. The last, but by no means the least :—this system reduces the running costs of any motor vehicle, owing to the saving of petrol effected by the introduction of steam into the combustion chambers of the engine, which has been proved to give increased power flexibility.
