Copy 19/9/24 X4429 Wor {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 2/MS/9/24. To C.J. from Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} Copy to BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} "" Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Re Experimental Cars. -------------------- Referring to your memo CJ3/E4/9/24:- (1) The spring which failed in France was similar to the spring which was submitted to R. {Sir Henry Royce} at West WitteringHenry Royce's home town last Wednesday week, and which was condemned by him. (2) As you are already aware from Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 's note to you this morning, he has not yet persuaded Firths to make a certain number of springs of 12 1/2%, fitted with Woodhead clips. They are refusing to make these until we have convinced them that our complaints are justified. (3) BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} is arranging that before any cars are run in France, that R's consent is definitely obtained, both as regards the type of spring to be used and the correct weight that he decides to use.
