Referring to R1/M23.12.27. apparently it will be necessary for us to instruct some further gears. This time R.{Sir Henry Royce} suggest a sharp engaging edge with a rounded off over-run, and apparently he would like this form of tooth tried first of all on a 5° helix. If this appears to be a distinct advance a further set would then be produced of 10°. We must of course arrange for the helical gears to be cut on the Fellowes machine, using the scheme for the production of helical teeth provided by the Fellowes Co. I do not think we shall get as good results by hobbing as we shall by the use of the Fellowes scheme, as hob teeth have one or two definite disadvantages compared with planed teeth. BY.{R.W.
