(1) It will slightly lengthen the bonnet, enable a slightly wider dash to be used, with the same taper. (2) It will improve the stiffness of the support of the steering column and radiator. (3) It will make it more nearly possible to carry the instruments (wired up) from the dash. (4) It will give a little more body space - say 1½" and shorten the steering column overhang.
