RECEIVED With regard to the body for chassis 6 EX. would you kindly note that it should fit the following requirements:- (1) Front seat should be 42" wide in plan, and rear seat 40". The drawing No. 321 sent with memo C7/H21/7/20 shews 48" and 47" respectively, which is not suitable. Mr. Royce does not want a large roomy body, but only a four-seater with the front seat two inches wider than the rear, to give the driver sufficient room. The body fitted to Mr. Northey's trials car is thought to be of these dimensions approximately. (2) Seat backs should not present a [handwritten: Latter] hard edge at the top to the passenger. When compressed they should conform to the required angle of slope, in which position there should be still a certain amount of room between the back of the passenger and the top of the seat frame. Mr. Royce does not think the seat backs shewn on Park Ward drawing 321 are quite satisfactory. Dimension for the front seat should conform to drawing Lec. 1254. (3) The body should not be so high as to prevent the driver assuming a comfortable steering position with the right elbow resting on the side of the body, as recommended by Mr. Northey. 1 EX body is satisfactory as regards height and measures 22" from the floorboards. Park Ward 321 scales 24" from floorboards. (4) Colour of body should be grey-black, i.e. a grey without pink or blue in it. The presence of blue imparts a green tinge if the varnish should turn yellow. The wings should be grey, and the wheels black. The upholstery should be black. (5) No rear screen is required. (6) The windscreen should be of the type fitted to Mr. Northey's car. This point is discussed in memo E1/G²/7/20 (7) Re ventilation flap, see E/G2?/7/20 Mr. Royce says that as we are going to spend money on a new body it should be what we think is right and should be made a saleable proposition, because the car will be sold in the course of time as new experimental chassis come along.
