TELEPHONE: CENTRAL 8641 (18 LINES) TELEGRAMS: "BUMPERS, BIRMINGHAM." WILMOT-BREEDEN LTD EASTERN WORKS BIRMINGHAM 1 MANAGING DIRECTOR'S OFFICE 23rd October 1941. W.A. Robotham Esq. Rolls-Royce Ltd. DERBY. Dear Robotham, Thank you for your letter of the 21st instant. I seem to have been unfortunate so far with this car, and at any rate have suffered from troubles which in two instances have been almost unique with the great firm of Rolls-Royce. I hope, however, what what is being turned up will be useful to your development department. I know, of course, that Vauxhall had a tremendous lot of front wheel bearing trouble with the original knee action they fitted, but one could never imagine your even contemplating a design of the type they put over originally. It is curious about the misfiring, because there is no doubt it is real, and on one occasion, going to the Admiralty at Bath, we discovered a bad contact, as I think I mentioned before, which was at any rate temporarily cutting out the ignition. On the other hand, the carburettor adjustment was such as to try and provide the most economical petrol consumption, and this seemed to be the cause of misfiring at slow speeds originally; but subsequently I have had it cutting out at high speeds, indicating either ignition cut-out or petrol starvation. It is a pity, because it always appears to me to be doing a real bit of no good to the transmission. | ||
