MINCHIN T.W. PRITCHETT YOUR REF. ______ OUR REF M/5. 5th October 1925. Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., DERBY. For the attention of Mr. Fowler Clark. Dear Sirs, With reference to your letter of September 21st, EFC2/T, the two cells referred to have not yet arrived but we are keeping a look out for them. With regard to the discharging of batteries, our remarks that we gave you in a recent letter about instructions to battery users re discharging down to one volt apply in this instance and we think the instruction should be modified accordingly. The instructions about draining out batteries were really written in the days when the corrugated ebonite or celluloid separator was more universal and before the days of the wood separator. When a battery fitted with wood separators is empty a large amount of the electrolyte remains in the wood which it is impossible to get out and the battery is liable to sulphate, so that in the case of an R.R. starter battery the draining out process is not as good as keeping it charged every few weeks. Yours faithfully, PETO & RADFORD. G.R.N. Minchin | ||
