W.1. Our ref. ACL/MM. Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, D E R B Y. 11.8.20 Dear Sirs, Xe. X.2515. X.4164. X.295. for the attention of Mr. Fowler Clark. We are in receipt of your favour of the 9th inst. with reference to the switchboard and connections of the Lighting Equipment. We have noted your remarks with reference to the polarity of the dynamo, and we can arrange to mark the dynamo terminals in the way which you require. With regard to the position of the main fuse, and its object is to melt if the cutout should stick in, we still think that the best position for it is in the dynamo circuit. There would be no difficulty about getting the fuse to operate efficiently since the short circuit current which would flow if the cutout remained in would be about 22 amps, whereas the normal output from the dynamo is about 12 amps. or at the most 15 amps. We are still waiting to hear from Messrs. Hoffman as to the ball bearings which they can supply to give extra quiet running, and also with reference to their suggestions concerning a coned bearing. Yours faithfully, pp. S. SMITH & SONS. (M.A.) LTD. Archibald C. Lock. MANAGER, ELECTRICAL DEPARTMENT. | ||
