(2) ROY{Sir Henry Royce}/JT20/HP25.4.28. EW6 Magnetos - cont'd "No.105341, 106009 and 105340 are being fitted with new gears and will be returned as quickly as possible. ---- RO{C. C. Rose - Export Manager}1 Magnetos - No.105626 requires a new slip ring, the insulation of the original one having burnt out. No.102608 was not firing regularly at low speeds as received but after re-assembling and slight adjustment to the contact breaker sparks regularly over the standard gap at 135 R.P.M. fully retarded. No.105606 after cleaning the contact breaker points sparks regularly over the standard gap at 110 R.P.M. fully retarded. ---- EO6 Magnetos - No.99887 shews a slight amount of gear noise at 1350 R.P.M. No.99172 has been tested when hot and sparks regularly over the standard gap at 135 R.P.M. fully retarded and also passes the high speed test when hot. No.99818, 97135, and 98251 are being fitted with new gears with a view to obtaining quieter running, but we note from your records that new gears have been fitted to these magnetos since they were delivered. No.97106 shews some gear noise at 1300 R.P.M. but is very quiet at lower speeds. We will endeavour to make it quieter at the higher speeds." ---- ROL Magnetos - No.105629 - the insulation of the slip ring is not perfect and this part is being replaced. We are unable to account for this as all slip rings are tested at 40,000 volts. No.106901/7 have been tested and found to spark regularly over a 3 point gap of 5 1/2 m/m at a speed of 120 R.P.M. when fully retarded, and as this is much lower than your specification calls for we are unable to understand in what way they failed to pass your production tests at low speed, and with regard to the controls we find that these can be operated with a weight under 3 lbs, and are quite as free as the controls on this type of magneto are usually made.
