by most people in England. Fortunately, the air temperature drops as one climbs the hill, but even at Murree in the hot weather it may be as much as 90° F. {Mr Friese} I did not attempt to take 76-WJ up this hill, partly because there was no occasion to do so officially, and partly because I was afraid that it would boil very badly.

I realise that this information is rather outside the matter on which I am writing, but no doubt it may be of interest to you.

STEERING:- I am very interested to note your remarks and I greatly look forward to being able to have a new PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I II car out here some time in the near future, but with the depressed state of affairs in India, which by the way seems to apply to the Princes as much as to everybody else, there is not much prospect of my being able to get out a new PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I II demonstrator in the immediate future.

SUSPENSION:- I am very glad to know that you agree with my idea of fitting Hartfords in addition to the hydraulics, with springs of normal flexibility. I certainly think that this would meet the point because it is only on wavy roads at very high speeds that 76-WJ is definitely too flexible.

Would you kindly let me know the latest practice in the poundage of the hydraulic dampers and if this poundage can be readily obtained on the type of damper fitted to 76-WJ (which left Derby at the end of 1929).

PETROL GAUGE:- I am interested in the fitting of a new electric petrol gauge. The type fitted to the Humber and Hillman cars is the A.C., and although several of them have given a great amount of trouble, the majority of them seem to work fairly well, but of course one must not expect anything approaching accuracy with this type of gauge.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
