Re: CHASSIS B.59.DK - de KERNAVANOIS

Failure of stiffened type cross-member or headlamp crossmember.

With reference to our memos Sr/VA4/GM.7.5.36 and Sr/VAI/ET.15.5.36, we find upon examination of the above chassis, that the bracket of the above type crossmember has also failed in the same position as the others.

We are afraid that the above is going to become an epidemic. We presume that steps have been or will be taken to re-inforce the part in question, because we think that to fit a crossmember having end brackets of similar design would in the end be an expensive job, owing to the possibility of failure at the same point.

We shall be glad if Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} will please let us know when we may expect delivery of reinforced type crossmembers. Will D/BP. or Hd.{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} please note that, in the meantime, we are immediately in need of one crossmember to fit to chassis B.154.GA, because we have dismantled the one from this chassis to fit to chassis B.10.GA (Brincard). We reported the failure of the crossmember of this car in our memo Sr/VAI/ET.15.5.36.

The Coachbuilders are now waiting to fit the front wings to chassis B.154.GA, but cannot do so until we have replaced the crossmember. We also need a crossmember for chassis B.59.DK. However, as this car has been involved in an accident, we now find that we can wait for about a week or ten days for a crossmember. We should naturally like to fit a reinforced type one, if delivery can be promised within a reasonable time.

Will D/BP. kindly note that Co. has written under separate cover as per his memo to D/BP., reference Sr/GO1/AD.19.5.36, claiming 3 front crossmembers, i.e. one for chassis B.10.GA (Brincard) which, when it arrives, will be fitted to chassis B.154.GA, plus one for B.59.DK and one for stock.

Will By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} please let us have his advice as to what we should do in the event of our discovering crossmembers cracked on other chassis. Should we leave them in position and wait until we can receive reinforced ones from the Works, or, if these cannot be obtained for the time being, are we to change them for one of the same type? In the latter case, will D/BP. please arrange to send the three called for in Co.'s memo. We must, however, mention again that we urgently need one for chassis B.154.GA.
