Copy 84553 To Wox, from Z. E.1/MP.1.12.32. c. Mr. Ellor, R.W.C. K4057 re Peregrine and Bensport. With regard to Peregrine, we are at the moment advised M.I. the question of moving the steering box back and improving the carburetter. This job is being regarded as of the utmost urgency, and we ought to complete our instructions, so far as can be seen at the moment, by the end of next week. The other job outstanding on Peregrine is the question of extra cylinder lubrication. The present BY/25 chassis has not got extra cylinder lubrication so that this feature need not be considered a necessity on Peregrine - as a matter of fact the Pere-grines in France is running without it. It was introduced on Peregrine with automatic control but we think we may have to convert it to hand control and combine it with the starter lever on the carburetter, as on Phantom II. A scheme is being put in hand for this also to be available if necessary. With regard to Bensport, the following sections are outstanding in the Design department: (1) Cylinder Head. The Experimental department are asking for a modification to this to provide more space round the inlet valve. (2) Valve Rocker Gear. Conversion to single rocker bar to simplify lubrication. (3) Petrol pump Drive. Nearly ready for issue. (4) Air Silencer, Air cleaner and Breather pipe. Waiting Experimental department. (5) Engine Breather. In hand. | ||
