The Micanite & Insulators Co.Ltd.
Varnish Fabric Board.

On the 30th ult. we wrote these people that after an exhaustive investigation into the advantages and disadvantages of various insulating materials, including Paxolin, our Engineer-in-Chief some time ago decided that varnish fabric board (linen base material) met our requirements better than any other and we standardised same.

We added that we had no evidence which would justify our qualifying the decision arrived at some time ago and we were not prepared at present to make further tests of Paxolin.

We suggested that they might send us samples of Varnish Fabric Board .031" thick in both their No.1 and No.2 grades, undertaking that we would compare same with the varnish fabric board we are using, i.e., Continental Bakelite.

We are now in receipt of a letter from the Micanite & Insulators Co. handing us a sample piece of each grades Nos.1 & 2 Varnish Fabric Board 12" sq. x .031" thick nominal and I am sending same herewith to By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer}

Suppliers suggest that we should carry out electrical tests of these samples, as they have been made specially with a view to obtaining better dielectric properties than their standard varnish board No.1 and No.2 and they ask us to advise them in due course of the results of our tests.

I notice that the surface of the boards leaves much to be desired.

Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}

Samples herewith.
