Sidgreaves - MD} 7/E31.5.34 Copy to Wor. {Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} & Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Cice I note from BY.5/G.15.5.34 that nothing has really been done about the milled nuts for the securing the spare coil in position, which I asked should be done some 5 or 6 months ago, and I note you say that it would not be very useful because they would be inaccessible and it would not be possible to get one's hand in the space available. This really emphasizes how unsatisfactory the present scheme is. Right from the very start I wanted the spare coil to have been wired up so that it could easily have been brought into use. I have not replied to your memo. earlier as I have been waiting to see the chassis to which you referred on which the spare coil was wired up in order to comply with the special order of a customer. We have now seen this and we are very anxious that it should be standardised as soon as possible. I note that you would make a special dual switch instead of the two tumbler switches as on this particular chassis and as shown on RR.Sch.586, the blue prints of which I return. I should be glad to know, as soon as there has been an opportunity of looking into the matter, how soon we shall have this introduced on production. When it is introduced I feel that there ought to be a neat little plate on some part of it, clearly saying what has to be done in the case of a coil failure, in the same way that we put a plate on the 20/25 about what has to be done in order to bring the magneto into use.
