Report on Special Parts fitted to Chassis 2100E.

9. REAR AXLE :- This is the new type of lighter design and the bevels fitted are 16/49. It is only "very fair" as regards quietness and it also has a slight periodic vibration.

Two sets of gears have been cut for this axle, and the condition in which it left the Works was the best that had been obtained.

With regard to the adjusting jig which replaces the short portion of the torque tube, I understand from Mr Swift that he thinks the rig is an improvement on our present method of setting axles, because firstly, it is easier to set on the car, it is not so much trouble and can be set in less time, and secondly, the final setting can be done in less time, due to the fact that there is no measurement to be made or distance piece to be ground up to size. Mr Swift proposes to cut a hole in the jig casing, which can be covered by a dust cover, through which the small locking piece can be fixed; this will prevent any possibility of the adjustment altering while the jig is being removed.
