Sheet 2. P.S. Referring to longitudinal brakes, when there is one on each side they must be very equal, and simultaneously applied, or they will be dangerous. I therefore think that the straight lever type should be used in the case of the Ford cranes, because this depends much less upon the bedding of the brake shoes when compared with the curved lever or pivoted shoe type - i.e. Royce Ltd. present standard. This crank is short and top pull rod becomes nearly horizontal. These longitudinal brakes need not be powerful, therefore this is quite a good chance of testing this type. I do not agree with drilling several holes, so that the crane man could couple up the brake differently on one side to another. F.H.R. | ||
