re. SPARKING PLUGS.

We are sending you herewith an old type Bosch sparking plug which we have been using for running the lighting engine here. This is the only kind of plug that will run in this engine without misfiring.

We would like you to get the central electrode analysed, to find out what the material is, also the Lodge plug. Probably you will find them both to be of pure nickel.

The trouble we still have with plugs is what we have called oxydisation, and which does not seem to be far from the truth. Now most of our trouble seems to be between this, oil insulating the points, and soot spoiling the insulation - i.e. if they do not get hot enough to burn off the oil and soot, it accumulates, but if the plugs get hot enough to burn off the soot, then a layer of oxide (or something) forms, which insulates the points.
