MINUTE FOR ROLLS-ROYCE.

HUCKNALL EXTENSION

With reference to previous discussions and correspondence.

The Air Ministry has now approved the proposals contained in our letter of 17th. May, 1938, and have confirmed that their financial assistance will be extended to cover:-

(a) The erection of an experimental hangar, offices, etc. at an estimated cost of £25,500.

(b) The purchase of the freehold of the whole of the land required, the total price being £11,100, which has been agreed as a fair and reasonable figure.

They require us, however, to modify our proposals with regard to the purchase of the houses on the North side of the Watnall Road. Instead of purchasing these as originally intended, the Air Ministry insist that we get an option to purchase exercisable for a period of five years.

Enclosed is a copy of the Air Ministry’s letter. They wish this to be treated as an urgent matter, and ask for an early reply.

I suggest that Mr. Keep contacts the vendors of the houses to see on what terms an option can be obtained. When this has been done, the matter can be further discussed with the Air Ministry.

I also suggest that the Hucknall U.D.C. be informed of the Air Ministry’s approval to the scheme so that no further time is lost in obtaining their sanction for the diversion of the footpath.

A.F.S.
For Captain E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives.
