TO BT.{Capt. J. S. Burt - Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} S E C R E T. DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}2/M19.7.24. Copy to - CW. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C.111. STEEL ARTILLERY WHEELS. X4586 As promised, we send herewith N.scheme 1825., shewing an alternative method of mounting the steel artillery wheels on E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. 111., to the stud method of N.scheme 1821. The general idea is exactly like the Dunlop, but by modifying the lock we have been able to save about .9" in overhang on either side. We have also used practically the existing Dunlop steel wheel. With reference to the latter Mr.Royce would like 12 spokes and 12 bolts if possible. Per- haps you would let us know about this. The back brake drum is unaltered ex- cept that the bolts are turned round as shewn, but the front one is again a fresh pressing. It will be understood that we shall not use both N.scheme 1821. and 1825., but that one or the other will be chosen for standard. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
