X1015 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}28/KW. 1st September, 1936. A.{Mr Adams} Smith Esq., Works Director, The Ford Motor Co.Ltd., Dagenham, Essex. Dear Mr. Smith, Thank you so much for giving my assistant, Mr. Grylls, so much information on the Ford V.8 rear axle. We should like to buy one of these axles complete, but less torque tube, would you tell us what would be the best way to get hold of this. I wonder how you are getting along with your oil consumption now. We have recently been undertaking quite a considerable research programme on this subject and have been surprised to find how little we know about it. Also how little a lot of the piston ring manufacturers know about it, which even includes some of the Americans. We have, however, developed a ring of our own which will improve the oil consumption by anything from 25% to 50%, or even more if the consumption is really bad. Should you be in any difficulty we should be happy to discuss this with you. Yours sincerely, FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED. | ||
