improved by scraping and running on load until the
necessary area of contact is secured.

(f) CONTROL BRUSH POSITION. If satisfied as regards
(a) (b) (d) and (e) and if the output is still
excessive, the control brush must be advanced, if such
advance is possible, to secure the necessary reduction,
after which re-bedding of this brush may be required.

(g) In the unlikely event of the machine not being
corrected by these means, it should be returned to the
Works for investigation.

(2) In the case of bad commutation and brush
sparking with consequent overheating, and undue wear,
particularly of the positive brush, it will be in some
cases desirable to start with one or more new brushes.

In a general way the same instructions as
given above apply, to this case, but rather more initial
bedding may be necessary, e.g. it may be necessary to use
sand paper.

SUMMARY:-

See that brush gear is O.K. as regards :-

(1) Alignment.
(2) Fixing.
(3) Brush Spacing.
(4) Brush freedom.
(5) Brush fit.
(6) Spring pressure.

(8) Control brush position (for correct output).
